Even a short vacation helps restore perspective.

I regretted not being able to ride my bike due to thunderstorms in Chicago, but they were over by noon until late night, and we were able to visit Chicago Botanical Gardens.

My ankles hurt. Walking and bike riding aren’t quite the same, and strolling isn’t the same as walking. We strolled a lot.

In the presence of flowers, I had to explore the macro setting on my new (about 2 months) camera, which I should get to know better. It’s amazing what you can do with a small, under-$500 camera these days.

We also celebrated the 29th birthday of my nephew and my niece’s husband, born about 12 hours apart on 7/27/82, with extended family totaling 16 people, at a Japanese Fusion restaurant in a Lake Forest strip mall. Be it noted that Lake Forest strip malls are not like ordinary strip malls.

Restored perspective? Well, it’s 8:10 am in my hometown. I have no idea what people are saying about the Norwegian bomber today. And I don’t care. But next stop is news websites, where I’ll lose my youthful innocence again.

Bon appetit!

  1. Chicago has been having so much rain. Glad you got to use a new camera…I just got a new one as well. It is going to be a learning experience.
